We went to a highly recommended restaurant planning to have a long, leisurely meal. The restaurant was dark and unpleasant. It had a fast food atmosphere. There was a series of misadventures (misinformation, mixed up orders, wrong food). It was not a pleasant place to wait.

We decided to ride around and find some place to wait. Maybe we could go shopping or catch a movie. It was close to 7:00 p.m. This was in February. It was chilly. Clouds had moved in. Every place was closing or closed. No theaters were to be found. There was no convenient place to wait .We drove back to the condo to see if perhaps our friends had arrived early. They had not.

It was hours after arrival and while sitting in the car in the cold and the dark, the Mind Storm which had been brewing showed up. "All the plans you make always go wrong. This is a bad omen. The weekend cannot go well. You should have stayed home. Whenever you go away things go wrong. It is not worth all the trouble. You should never leave home again. They may not have another key. The lock may in fact be broken You will have to sit in the car 3 or 4 hours. You could be back home in that same amount of time. You should leave."

Now, what is a reasonable thing to do in this situation? It would make sense to find a place to wait. Any place would do. A motel lobby would be fine. We could explain our situation and just read while waiting.

Well, the little voice kept talking to me and had even more to say. After a while I turned my wife and blurted out something like, "Everything always happens to us. We are going home." (There was no objection because Mind States can be contagious.)

So, we left and drove home. It took another five hours of traveling. We arrived after midnight and crashed into bed.
